Budget Shortfall Caused by Flawed Tax Policy

Tax credits are getting a great deal of coverage and are part of the problem, but the overarching problem is a fundamentally flawed tax policy. For too long, our legislators and the Governor have prioritized tax cuts over investments in essential services. The Governor's 2011 tax shift has left us with a Corporate Income Tax that fails to generate enough revenue to support our schools and communities. Today, only 2% of total state revenue comes from business taxes. That's a smaller share than almost any other state in the Union.
